Home Ground
Über das Lied
Home Ground

[VERSE 1]
I looked up once into the open sky,
White and blue, the clouds drifting by.
When the last of the winter lets go of the land,
And the light returns with a gentle hand.
When the sun breaks free from the heavy grey,
And the fields breathe out after days of rain,
I know there’s a reason I’m standing here—
Not just passing through, but belonging here.
[VERSE 2]
Some may say these words come too soft,
Too close to the heart, too easily lost.
But it lives in me, it asks to be spoken,
No matter how often I leave it unbroken.
A man who won’t speak what he carries inside
Walks through his days with the shutters drawn tight.
And if you never step out of your own skin,
The cold stays with you, buried within.
[CHORUS]
This land is my quiet ground,
My harbour light, my homeward bound.
Here I stand the way I am,
And I am not alone.
Through sun and rain, through wind and night,
This place has kept me standing right.
Here I belong, no need to explain—
I am rich of heart, and I remain.
[VERSE 3]
Every road I’ve ever taken
Turns me back to this same shore,
Where people listen with open hearts,
And I remember what I’m living for.
By the lake, beneath the open hills,
Where the silence knows my name,
I don’t need more than this one truth:
I came back whole, I came back the same.
[PRE-CHORUS]
No matter where the wide world leads,
Or how far the seasons roam,
There’s something here that holds me fast
And gently pulls me home.
[CHORUS]
This land is my quiet ground,
My harbour light, my homeward bound.
Here I stand the way I am,
And I am not alone.
Through storm and calm, through loss and gain,
This place holds steady through the strain.
Here I belong, no need to explain—
I am rich of heart, and I remain.
[BRIDGE]
Morning mist or falling night,
The hills stay close, the water waits.
I carry this place out into the world,
And it carries me back through every gate.
I may wander, I may roam,
But I never lose my way—
For what feels like home inside of me
Will never fade away.
[SOLO – fiddle / guitar]
[FINAL CHORUS – quiet → strong]
This land is my quiet ground,
My harbour light, my homeward bound.
Through sun and storm, through time and tide,
This place lives deep inside.
Wherever I go, whatever I find,
This truth will stay the same:
I know my ground, I know my place,
And I carry no shame.
[OUTRO]
Rain or light upon my face,
This land will always know my name.
I walk the world, but deep inside…
This shore remains… this shore remains.
